Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon mockingly suggest holding 'Trump Day' election in two weeks

During the hand-off between Cuomo Prime Time and CNN Tonight With Don Lemon Thursday, Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon mocked President Donald Trump for suggesting in a tweet earlier in the day that the November election be delayed until it can be done safely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cuomo and Lemon sarcastically suggested holding it now, or maybe two weeks from now. Of their many points of contention with Trump’s suggestion, one was that Trump is questioning the safety of an event happening nearly 100 days from now, while at the same time pushing for schools to reopen nationwide in the coming weeks.

“He said it was safe to go to those rallies, right?” Lemon asked. “Yeah, right now it’s good,” Cuomo answered. “You can go to school. You can reopen. You can do all that stuff.” Cuomo soon added, “Yeah sure, just do it now. It’s good, right? We’re all reopening. Everybody should reopen, he says. Great. Let’s hold the election now.”

Cuomo and Lemon also suggested making this imaginary Election Day a national holiday. And though senate Republicans made their feelings about Election Day being a national holiday clear in early 2019 when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the suggestion alone an attempted power grab by Democrats, Cuomo had an idea, sarcastically of course, that Trump could actually go for.

“Make it a national holiday,” Lemon said. “That way, everybody gets off work.” “And you know what we’ll call it?” Cuomo responded. “Trump Day. Let’s call it Trump Day and we’ll have the election in a week. Maybe two. We’ll give it two weeks. It’ll still be so safe. But, you know, because a hundred days from now, it could be really unsafe.”
