Chris Cooper, Oscar-winning actor who specializes in portraying cranky old men, has been cast as a real-life cranky (and reclusive) old man.
Cooper will play J.D. Salinger in Coming Through the Rye, which marks the feature directing debut of Emmy Award-winning writer Jim Sadwith (Sinatra, Elvis). The film, based on Sadwith’s own youthful quest to meet the notoriously private Catcher in the Rye author.
The film, set in 1969, tells the story of “a sensitive boy, a quirky girl and the road they travel to find not only Salinger but also friendship and the truth about themselves.” Beautiful. The teenagers will be played former Nickelodeon star Alex Wolff and The Carrie Diaries actress Stefania Owen.
The film has already entered into production and will be put up for sale for distributors in February.
