Chreece, Indianapolis's beloved independent hip-hop festival, to return in 2023

Chreece, Fountain Square's beloved independent hip-hop festival, will return Aug. 26 after a three-year hiatus.

"Join us in Fountain Square for a day filled with exceptional performances, positive vibes, and the celebration of Indianapolis hip-hop culture," Chreece founder and 81355 member Oreo Jones said in a news release.

The full-day festival will feature more than 80 Indianapolis-area artists, DJs and producers, as well as national acts 9th Wonder, redveil, Kari Faux, Jordan Ward and Pink Siifu at the top of the bill. Eight Fountain Square venues will host the performances, most of which will be open to all ages.

Tickets will go on sale through Chreece's website, chreeceaf.com, at 10 a.m. Friday. General admission tickets ($50) include access to every performance, while VIP passes ($90) add VIP lounge and priority venue entry.

This year's Chreece will celebrate the legacy of esteemed Indianapolis manager, promoter and DJ Ron Miner, also known as DJ Indiana Jones, who passed away in 2020.

Chreece was last held in August 2019, and tickets sold out. The COVID-19 pandemic forced its discontinuation in 2020. The festival began in 2015.

Ganggang, the cultural development firm behind "Butter" and a variety of other local arts projects since forming in 2020, has joined on to help produce Chreece.
