‘The Chosen’ and ‘Jesus Revolution’ both won awards this week

“The Chosen” and “Jesus Revolution” were awarded best television show of the year and best film of the year, respectively, at the 2023 Dove Awards.
The Gospel Music Association aired the 54th annual Dove Awards on Friday after hosting the event on Tuesday in Nashville. The mission statement of the organization is “to expose, promote and celebrate the Gospel through music.”
While the primary focus of the awards show is to recognize music artists, Dove also has a category for both television and film.
“It’s not lost on me that 54 years ago someone had the vision, the fortitude, and the strength to launch a Christian and gospel music award show,” GMA president Jackie Patillo said during the ceremony, according to a press release. “We are standing on the shoulders of some great people. I’m hoping 54 years from now we’re still going strong.”

‘The Chosen’ wins television show of the year
It’s been a big week for “The Chosen.”
The Angel Original series about the life of Jesus, who is played by Jonathan Roumie, announced its Season 4 release date and its Christmas special featuring Andrea Bocelli. Then, it won television show of the year at the Dove Awards.
In 2022, the show won the award for inspirational television series or film of the year.
At this year’s awards show, “The Chosen” producer Chad Gunderson told The Christian Post, “We do our best just to make a good show.”
“It’s not like we ever shy away from the deity of Christ,” Gunderson said to The Christian Post. “But at the same time, He laughs, He cries, He jokes, and He does things that any man would do. Therefore, the disciples are just drawn to Him. And obviously, that draws our audience in.”
“The Chosen” finished filming its fourth season over the summer. It’s releasing all episodes of Season 4 in theaters nationwide starting on Feb. 1.

‘Jesus Revolution’ wins film of the year
“Jesus Revolution,” a film about the movement in the the 1960s and 70s to convert hippies to Christianity, won the Dove Award for film of the year.
The Lionsgate film grossed more than $53 million at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. With a budget of around $15 million, per Dallas Morning News, the movie performed well and surprised some in the movie industry.
“Jesus Revolution” premiered in U.S. theaters on Feb. 24, 2023, and has since made it to streaming platforms. It’s available to stream on Netflix.
