Each episode of The Chosen chronicles the ministry of Jesus Christ as he preaches, gathers disciples, cures the sick, and embodies several biblical narratives. The show follows the details that are in the text of the New Testament very closely.

There are many scenes from the bible that have been accurately brought to life in Angel Studios’ hit series, including: the birth of Jesus, the healing of Mary Magdalene, young Jesus in the temple, Jesus healing a paralyzed man, and many more across three seasons.

However, the series further explores what’s only briefly mentioned in the bible. Every episode uses artistic license to further expand on the many details that the text leaves out. Here’s what the creators of the series had to say about including certain sequences to do that:

The show’s accuracy and willingness to go beyond what’s in the text is why so many viewers have loved the series. Its execution has been spot-on while bringing many powerful moments to life. Jonathan Roumie plays Jesus Christ in the show. Along with him, Elizabeth Tabish stars as Mary Magdalene, Paras Patel plays Matthew, Noah James is Andrew, Shahar Isaac plays Simon Peter, George Harrison Xanthis is John, and Shaan Sharma stars as Shmuel, among many others.
