Chloe Kim Lands First 1260 in Women's Halfpipe History at X Games: 'I'm Really Stoked'

“I really wanted to do that trick for a long time,” the two-time Olympic gold medalist told NBC Sports

Chloe Kim just became the first woman to land a 1260 in a women's snowboard halfpipe competition at the X Games.

Since first appearing at the 2014 X Games, Kim, 23, has clinched her seventh X Games Aspen title. She’s now tied with her mentor Kelly Clark’s record number of X Games Aspen titles.

She performed a cab 1260 at the end of her last run during the Friday finals. Ahead of the record-breaking move she already won the title and landed the move during her victory lap.

“I really wanted to do that trick for a long time,” she said, reports NBC Sports. “I wish it was a little cleaner, but I’m really stoked that I was able to put it down.”

After her historic halfpipe landing, the X Games shared Kim’s achievement on X (formerly known as Twitter): “@ChloeKim wins her 7th #XGames SuperPipe gold, tying her mentor Kelly Clark for most in the discipline. In her victory lap, she became the first woman to land a 1260 in a women's snowboard superpipe competition. #XGamesAspen”

At the X Games first event last week, she placed fourth after falling during both of her finals runs.

Kim was catapulted into international stardom at 17 years old when she won her first gold medal in halfpipe at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist returned to competitions this month since competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Ahead of the 2022 competition, she landed the 1260 during practice, but at the event, she unsuccessfully attempted the move.

Kim began training for the 2026 games in October 2023 at a Switzerland camp. Her coach shared she has become the first woman to land a 1440 in training, per NBC Sports.

Kim can bid to become the first woman to win three Olympic snowboarding gold medals at the 2026 Olympics. She would join the likes of fellow American Olympic snowboarder Shaun White — who is the only man to score three Olympic snowboarding gold medals.

After the X Games, Kim will head to the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix in Mammoth Mountain, Calif.
