Chlöe Finds Her Freedom on Liberating Single ‘Boy Bye’

Chlöe has released a new single, “Boy Bye,” along with a desert-set music video for the track directed by C&P. The song, produced by Yeti Beats, Rogét Chahayed, Carter Lang, and Kurtis McKenzie, arrives on the heels of her March single “FYS.”
“‘Boy Bye’ is an anthem for anyone who needs to get rid of someone toxic and draining from their life,” the singer said in a statement. “It’s liberating and free. That’s how it feels to finally let go of dead weight that’s been keeping you down. Instead of being sad about releasing what’s not good for me, I celebrate it.”

Chlöe dropped her debut solo album, In Pieces, last year. The LP included collaborations Chris Brown, Future, and Missy Elliott.
“When I had a creative block for the album, that was because I was so caught up in having my eyes and ears on what I think people expect from me and caring too much,” Chlöe told Rolling Stone last year. “That’s when my creativity and artistry got suffocated and I wasn’t creating the way that I was meant to. I feel like we all have a gift and we’re all vessels of that gift.”
She added, “When I worry too much about outside opinions, or who can I please the most or who will I not please, that will defeat the whole purpose of what art is about. Not everybody’s supposed to like art. It’s all about perspective. And, you know, not everybody will see or hear the same thing the same.”
Prior to striking out on her own, Chlöe released two albums and a couple of EPs with her sister, Halle Bailey. The duo’s first album, The Kids Are Alright, arrived in 2018, while their sophomore effort, Ungodly Hour, dropped in 2020. While Chlöe has been focused on music, Halle has turned her attention to acting, with major roles in two hotly-anticipated movies arriving this year: the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaptation of The Color Purple.
