Chipotle's chicken al pastor returns on March 12

Run, don’t walk: Chipotle’s chicken al pastor is returning.

The burrito chain’s chicken al pastor is back at all restaurant locations in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe starting on Tuesday but just for a limited time.

The flavorful protein option was briefly on menus across the world in March 2023 and stuck around until August. Since being taken off of menus last summer, fans have flooded the fast food restaurant’s social media platforms with requests to bring back the meal.

"There have been three times more requests to 'bring back Chicken al Pastor' on social media than any other limited time offering in the brand’s history," according to press release.

Customers went crazy for the grilled chicken marinated with peppers, pineapple, lime juice and cilantro, so much so that one in five transactions included the chicken al pastor when it was on menus, the company added.

Chipotle Chief Brand Officer Chris Brandt said, "Given the performance and the fans wanting its return so enthusiastically, we are thrilled to make this the fastest item to ever come back to Chipotle.”

It is not clear exactly how long the protein will remain on menus.

The most popular chicken al pastor entrée in 2023 was a burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, tomato salsa, roasted corn salsa, cheese and guacamole. It's now available for online ordering as the “Most Ordered Chicken al Pastor Bowl.”

Dairy Queen is also bringing back a beloved item. The ice cream chain recently confirmed that the Cherry Cone Dip is coming back. The fan-favorite flavor was discontinued last spring but will be back for a limited time at participating locations, a representative for the brand confirmed to PEOPLE.
