  • Chip Gaines got into a spat with a Twitter hater when the user claimed to not know who "tf" he is

  • The Fixer Upper alum clapped back by joking the user should ask his mom because “she’ll know”

  • Their back-and-forth ended on a wholesome note when the user shared a screenshot of his text messages with his mom that confirmed she did in fact know Gaines

Chip Gaines is clapping back at a social media troll who said they didn’t know who the Fixer Upper star is.

The exchange on X (formerly Twitter) started when the account Barstool Kentucky (an affiliate of Barstool Sports) posted a photo of Gaines, 49, and his wife Joanna, 45. The photo was accompanied by the caption, “Keep these two away from Scott Drew for the next 48 hours.” Chip responded: “🤣y’all wish.”

The initial post is a reference to the current men’s basketball coach at Baylor University, where the Magnolia founders attended college. The post comes amid the University of Kentucky’s basketball coach, John Calipari, announcing he was stepping away from the program, leaving some to speculate Drew might take his place.

Drew’s departure would be a loss for Chip and Joanna too as they often support their alma mater’s athletic programs – thus the reason for Chip’s animated responses.

A user who goes by Coach T, a University of Kentucky graduate per their bio, quickly decided to jump in on the conversation by replying to the post, “Who tf is @chipgaines 😂”

Chip then fired back: “Do you kiss your mom with that mouth.. ask her who I am, she’ll know.”

While those unfamiliar with the Gaineses may have read the retort as a "your mom" joke, the TV builder seems to genuinely have been referring to his shows' popularity with moms.

In a wholesome twist, Coach T ended up sharing a series of screenshots from a text conversation he had with his mom.

In the messages, he spells the Magnolia Network star’s name wrong as he asks his mom if she knows who “Chip Gains” is.

At first, Coach T’s mom says she doesn’t know who he is, but then follows up with, “I think he’s the one with the beautiful wife. She can decorate anything and make it beautiful!”

Getting excited, the X user added in the thread, “ OMG SHE DOES KNOW!!”

The conversation between Chip and Coach T ended with Chip offering to send his former foe's mom a gift from Magnolia, the lifestyle brand he launched with Joanna in 2003.

“Ha.. I told you! We are sending your mom all things,” he wrote to the X user, making sure to tag Magnolia’s account.
