Chinese woman in strict quarantine helplessly watches her dog destroy her home through surveillance cam

A helpless Chinese woman reportedly had to watch her dog destroy all of the things in her living room and wardrobe via surveillance camera during the first half of a 14-day quarantine.

The woman, identified only as Liu, left her dog with enough food and water before leaving her home to quarantine for 14 days due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the city of Xi’an, according to HouLang News via Insider.

Liu said her dog waited by the front door after she left her apartment. When she did not return the following day, her pet began destroying her things one by one, and the worst part was she had to watch everything in real-time.

Speaking to HouLang News, Liu said that her dog would find new items to demolish every day – including her sofa – and that "almost everything in the house is broken now." Although she still needs to quarantine for one more week, Liu said she has now started shopping for new furniture online.

A video about the woman’s dog has been viewed more than 12 million times on Weibo, prompting social media users to voice their concerns over pets left at home. Many of them have urged local health officials to allow pet owners to bring their pets with them while they quarantine.

Although Liu claimed that her dog “destroyed all of my bags, my shoes and my clothes,” she feels relieved that her pet is doing OK despite her absence.

At least my dog is still healthy. It hasn't eaten anything that bad. In seven days, we can return home, and things will get better," Liu said. “The house may be trashed, but we can clean it up, and it'll be okay."

Health workers from the city of Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, drew outrage in November 2021 after people in hazmat suits were captured on camera beating a pet corgi to death while its owner was in quarantine.

Xi’an went into lockdown in December 2021 in what experts have described as the “most serious” outbreak to hit China since Wuhan in the early months of the pandemic, SupChina reported. Around 2,000 residents were reportedly infected by the Delta variant during the outbreak.
