The upcoming film adaptation of Uncharted starring Tom Holland has reeled in three more cast members as it gears up to start production.

Fresh from his Oscar nomination earlier this year, Pain and Glory's Antonio Banderas is officially on board the project, as is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle. They'll also be joined by Truth or Dare star Sophia Ali.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, and while details about their characters are currently a mystery, the publication did add that The 100 star Tati Gabrielle would be playing the movie's female lead.

Uncharted's journey to the cinematic medium hasn't been the smoothest, with years stuck in development hell and a whole queue of directors coming and going.

It recently received another delay when it was confirmed that the release date has been moved from December 18, 2020 to March 5, 2021 back in January.

But it looks like fans of the adventure video games will finally see hero Nathan Drake on the big screen soon as production on the film starts later this month, with MCU favourite Holland stepping into his dusty boots.

Previously discussing how the adaptation will differ from other video game movies, Holland explained: "I think what Uncharted offers [what] most video game films don't [in] that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film.

"And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming."

It's also been reported that Venom director Ruben Fleischer is the latest director to be calling the shots on this one – stepping in after the film's sixth director, Travis Knight, left the project – so let's hope he sticks around longer than the rest.

Uncharted is scheduled to finally reach cinemas in March 2021.
