Earlier this month, the “Waterfalls” hitmaker celebrated her beau in a sweet Instagram post for his birthday.

HAPPY ADVENTUROUS BIRTHDAY, my Love❤️‍🔥💜❤️‍🔥,” she captioned a Feb. 11 selfie of them together. In the photo, they laid beside each other outdoors with plates of food near them.

Several days later, PEOPLE released an exclusive interview with her ex-boyfriend Usher following his halftime performance at the 2024 Super Bowl.

The former couple famously dated from 2001 to 2004, and in the bombshell interview, the “U Got It Bad” singer, 45, revealed that he once proposed to Chilli, but she did not accept.

“If I am to be honest, I was her No. 1 fan, and she was my superstar,” he said, admitting that before he was a superstar himself that he had a poster of her in his room.

He also gave his explanation of why he believed their relationship ultimately didn’t work out.

“I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn’t work for me,” Usher said.

He added, “I wanted to marry her. I proposed and she told me no. I went through a great deal of pain after that, not trusting women or wanting to open up.”

However, both have seemingly moved on from their past heartache and found love again.

Following his Feb. 11 Super Bowl halftime performance, Usher tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Goicoechea in Las Vegas.
