New Chili Cook-off, Pumpkin Carving Oct. 26

The Exchange Club of Monroe will host its first Chili Cook-off and Pumpkin Carving celebration from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal, 8 N. Monroe St.

Thirteen area chefs will be participating from Amaya’s Fresh Mexican Grill, Angelo's Chop House, Friendly Ford, Frenchtown Fire Department, Keep It Fresh Catering, and Larsons Bar and Grill. Other chefs are Exchange Club of Monroe members: Steve Goodman, Julie Harman, Judge Christian Horkey, Connie Matteson, Josh Myers and Joann Van Aken.

Chili judges will be state Sen. Joe Bellino Jr., Monroe Mayor Robert Clark and Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough. Judging will be at 8:15 p.m.

The band Voices of Chaos will provide music. A pumpkin-carving station will be set up on the patio; pumpkin carving is $5. Also offered will be a cash bar and 50/50 raffle.

The public is welcome. Tickets are $15 in advance for adults and $20 at the door. Tickets for children ages 5-12 are $5; tickets are free for children under 5. Tickets include unlimited tastings. Hot dogs also will be available. For tickets, call Connie at 734-735-6001.

The Exchange Club hopes this will become an annual event.

Proceeds will benefit the club’s Goodfellows fund, which supports local area child abuse prevention programs, student scholarships, services for veterans, eyeglasses for children, grief support services for families and camp scholarships for Holiday Camp.
