Chiefs literally run out of fireworks as they pile up points vs. Texans

For 20 minutes of football on Sunday, things looked disastrous for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Houston Texans raced to a 24-0 lead and looked ready to ruin Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes’ Super Bowl dreams.

Then five minutes into the second quarter, Mahomes found Damien Williams on a 17-yard touchdown to get the Chiefs on the board.

And the floodgates opened. It was the first of seven consecutive Chiefs drives that ended with touchdowns as they rolled past the Texans, 51-31 into the AFC championship.

Fireworks spent

By the time it was done, the Chiefs were out of fireworks. Literally.

The Chiefs let the home fans know via jumbotron that the explosives that mark a Kansas City touchdown had all been spent by the fourth quarter. There would be no more fireworks.

“Chiefs fans, we are sorry to report but, due to your support and the Chiefs continually finding the end zone, we have run out of touchdown fireworks,” the message read. “Please direct all of your complaints to the nearest Fans First booth.”

It’s a good problem to have. But with Mahomes finding his groove, here’s guessing the Chiefs are fully stocked with fireworks for next Sunday’s AFC championship game against the Tennessee Titans.
