In the book, readers will find 26 recipes that are meant to be easy to follow.

Included will be dishes such as breakfast casseroles, chicken enchiladas and apple cobbler, and recipes are geared toward using extra food items that are typically found in home kitchens.

The new cookbook was inspired by the Chick-fil-A Shared Table food donation program and features recipes from local nonprofit partners that repurpose Chick-fil-A restaurant food donations to help feed their communities across the U.S., Canada and piloting in Puerto Rico later this fall, according to the company’s official website.

As an added bonus to raise awareness, Chick-fil-A promises to donate $1 million collectively this month to Feeding America, Second Harvest in Canada and seven Chick-fil-A Shared Table nonprofit partners working to address food insecurity and hunger.

Other items found in the cookbook are classics that are no longer at physical locations, like coleslaw and chicken salad.

The cookbook is divided into four sections: Breakfast, entrées, sides and shareables, and desserts.

Items found on the breakfast menu include a fruit smoothie made using Chick-fil-A’s Greek yogurt, a waffle potato fry frittata, and a spicy queso and eggs. Nugget fried rice is among the 12 savory dishes available under entrées.

“Participating local Chick-fil-A Owner-Operators across the U.S. and Canada care for their neighbors and communities through Chick-fil-A Shared Table food donations, collectively donating over 23 million meals in the past 11 years,” he continued. “While we’re pleased with this milestone, we know there is more work to be done, which is why we’re spotlighting this important issue.”

Chick-fil-A’s website adds that, according to ReFED, an estimated 160 billion pounds of food is wasted each year in the United States alone.

Chick-fil-A’s Shared Table program is working to divert more than 25 million pounds of restaurant food waste from landfills by 2025 as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Marshall Wilkins, a local Chick-fil-A owner-operator in Knoxville, Tennessee, who helped create the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program in 2012 opened up about the initiative.

“Chick-fil-A Shared Table empowers local restaurant owner-operators to be a good neighbor within their communities,” he said.

“The Extra Helpings cookbook is more than just an opportunity to share recipes — it’s a tool to help inspire meaningful change and honor nonprofit partners that are working to make a significant impact in their communities. Together, we can address the root causes of both hunger and food waste,” Wilkins added.
