Broadway in Chicago and Universal Theatrical Group said Tuesday that the pre-Broadway tryout of a musical version of the 1992 Robert Zemeckis movie “Death Becomes Her” will take place April 30 to June 2, 2024, at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph St.) in Chicago.

The stars will be Megan Hilty (”Smash”) and Jennifer Simard, playing roles made famous by Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.

“Death Becomes Her” is a dark comedy based on the relationship between Simard’s Helen, a writer, whose husband has an affair with movie star and Helen’s former friend Madeline (Hilty). Determined to exact revenge for the betrayal, Helen returns home to confront the now-married couple, armed by a mysterious drug granting eternal life to the person who drinks it. Things go from there.

The new musical will feature an original score by Noel Carey and Julia Mattison, a book by Marco Pennette, and will be directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli (”Newsies”). Tickets are not yet on sale; the show will be part of Broadway in Chicago’s 2024 season.
