The popular NBC show follows the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit from District 21, led by Sgt. Hank Voight (played by Jason Beghe), as they tackle the city’s most heinous offenses, including organized crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and more.

Voight’s elite squad includes Det. Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), a seasoned detective whose tough demeanor belies her complicated emotions; Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), a quick thinker who often leads with his heart; Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), a fearless former patrol officer whose research and astute observations often point the team in the right direction; Officer Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), a charismatic cop with indelible knowledge of the streets; and newest recruit, Officer Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar). Torres arrived in Season 10 fresh from patrol but still held his own on a team full of big personalities.

Wolf executive-produces the series alongside showrunner Gwen Sigan, Chad Saxton, Rick Eid, Derek Haas, Gavin Harris, Jason Beghe, Arthur Forney, Peter Jankowski and Michael Brandt.

Where Did Chicago P.D. Season 10 Leave Off?

The Season 10 finale saw Intelligence close in on white supremacist Richard Beck, who was planning to make a big statement with explosives.

Ruzek blew his cover to prevent Richard’s daughter Samantha from skipping town with her son Cal, and Voight secured an immunity deal for Samantha in exchange for her cooperation with the investigation. But as Samantha packed their belongings — intending to head to a safe house — Cal shot Ruzek in the gut at close range. The profusely bleeding cop mustered just enough strength to call Burgess and was quickly transported to Chicago Med.

The rest of the team eventually caught up with Richard, who took Cal hostage as a last resort. The tense standoff culminated with Atwater killing Richard, and Cal staring down Atwater with a chilling hatred that suggested this was far from over for him.

Did Ruzek Die in Season 10?

Although Ruzek made it to the hospital, his fate was never revealed during the hour. However, photos from an unaired scene — which have since been deleted from NBC’s press site — show the officer awake with Burgess by his side.

Who Is Returning for Chicago P.D. Season 11?

The entire ensemble is expected to return for the upcoming season, including Jason Beghe as Voight, Tracy Spiridakos as Upton, Patrick John Flueger as Ruzek, Marina Squerciati as Burgess, LaRoyce Hawkins as Atwater, Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Torres and Amy Morton as Platt.

Who Is Leaving in Chicago P.D. Season 11?

In October, it was announced that Tracy Spiridakos would be leaving the NBC drama as Det. Hailey Upton. An exact date for her departure remains unknown.

Spiridakos first appeared in Season 4 in a recurring capacity before joining the squad full-time in Season 5. Season 10, which wrapped up in May, found Upton dealing with the fallout from her husband Jay Halstead’s (played by Jesse Lee Soffer) quick exit in the season’s third episode.

What Is the Storyline for Season 11?

Showrunner Gwen Sigan teased a season of “new possibilities; both good and bad” in the coming episodes. “New possibilities in policing, in relationships, at home in their personal lives,” she previewed. “Our characters are each on the precipice of something new, whether they know it or not.”

The Season 11 premiere, titled “Unpacking,” will see Upton tasked with shadowing a crisis prevention team, where she finds her “approach to policing at odds with the team’s mental health clinician,” per the episode’s synopsis. The case will bring out Upton’s “personal struggles,” with Voight standing by her.

When Does Chicago P.D. Season 11 Start?

Chicago P.D. will jump back into the action Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 10/9c on NBC in its usual spot behind Chicago Med (which is heading into Season 9) and Chicago Fire (returning for Season 12, with Taylor Kinney back as Severide!).

How Many Episodes is Season 11?

Although Season 10 consisted of the usual 22 episodes, Chicago P.D. Season 11 will feature a strikes-related, shorted 13-episode run. It joins Chicago Fire and Chicago Med — as well as other Dick Wolf properties, including all three Law & Orders and the FBI trifecta on CBS — that will deploy shorter seasons in 2024.

Will Jesse Lee Soffer Be Back as Jay Halstead?

Plans for Jesse Lee Soffer’s Det. Jay Halstead to appear in Season 11 have not been announced.

The actor previously spoke on the possibility of Halstead returning, telling Variety, “Never say never… Halstead’s always going to be in my blood. That’s never going to change.”

Where to Watch/Stream Chicago P.D.

Chicago P.D. airs on NBC (and averaged 4.7 million viewers during the Season 10 finale).

Season 11 episodes will stream the next day on Peacock, which currently houses Seasons 1-10.
