Blackhawks trade Brendan Perlini to Red Wings for prospect
Brendan Perlini’s wish has been granted by the Chicago Blackhawks.
After requesting a trade at the end of last week, Perlini has been dealt to the Detroit Red Wings. The Blackhawks received Alec Regula, a 19-year-old defenceman with the OHL’s London Knights, in return, according to the team’s official Twitter account.
Perlini has only played one game this season, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 12, where he only received 7:49 of ice time and registered one shot.
The 23-year-old was acquired alongside Dylan Strome last November in the trade that sent Nick Schmaltz to the Arizona Coyotes. Following just six points in 22 games to begin the 2018-19 campaign with the Coyotes, he scored 12 goals and added three assists in 46 games with the Blackhawks.
The 2014 first-round pick has 45 goals and 72 points in 200 NHL regular season games.
Regula, meanwhile, is a budding blueliner that was selected in the third round of the 2018 draft by Detroit. Currently in his third season with the Knights, the 19-year-old has collected 11 points in 10 games so far this season.
According to CapFriendly, the Blackhawks did not retain any of Perlini’s salary. He’s currently on a one-year deal worth $874,125.
For those in deep Yahoo Fantasy leagues, Perlini may be someone to keep an eye on. While it’s currently unknown where he’ll slide into Detroit’s lineup, he’s proven to be a streaky scorer when given the right opportunity. He scored eight goals and picked up two assists during a seven-game stretch with Chicago last March.
