When reality stars guest on talk shows, you know the tea is coming. And that’s what Cheryl Burke brought when she joined Chris Harrison on his podcast.

During an episode of The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever, Cheryl playfully confronted him and asked if it was true that kept her from being on The Bachelorette because she was a “sloppy drunk.”

He had no idea Cheryl Burke’s Bachelorette hopes were shot down

His response was probably not what she expected as the former The Bachelor and The Bachelorette host was stunned and denied it was true before asking her, “They put that on me?”

Cheryl, 39, confirmed that she wasn’t kidding and that they did indeed pin it on Chris, saying that she was vetoed as the lead because of what he said. The producers blamed it on him absolutely.

“So they told me the reason why. They said I didn’t get to do the show because Chris Harrison said I was a sloppy drunk,” Cheryl explained.

“That’s funny,” Chris told the Dancing With the Stars alum. “Like I have that much power.” He added sarcastically, “Like I have the power to decide who the Bachelor and Bachelorette is.”

He shook it off, and the two ABC stars talked about how Cheryl is now five years sober and doing well. It’s too bad she wasn’t in the best place back then, or maybe she could have been a potential Bachelorette.

“You know what’s so great and beautiful,” Chris added. “They, in public, would never give me that power to decide who the leads would be.”

The former host recalled that sometimes the producers would ask his opinion on possible leads, but that’s as far as that went. He didn’t feel his opinion pushed or prevented any potential show leads from picking up the rose.

It’s not too late

Cheryl wanted to be in the popular ABC dating show back when she was single and thought that being surrounded by a “pool of guys” would have made it easier to find love.

Since then, she’s married actor Matthew Lawrence and set her Bachelorette ambitions aside. Unfortunately, Cheryl and Matthew divorced in 2022.

Now, Cheryl is both single and sober. So maybe her time on The Bachelorette may still be on the horizon?
