Cher rocks Borgata with dazzling performance of timeless tunes

Leave it to Cher to bring the party to the next level in Atlantic City.

Coming off of her lauded return to film in "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again," Cher proved once again that she hasn't missed a beat during two sold-out shows at Borgata's The Event Center over the weekend.

Before she even took the stage on Friday and Saturday nights, the legendary performer was causing buzz all around Atlantic City as the anticipation for her shows reached fever pitch. She was the talk of the town at The Water Club's outdoor pool, over dinner at Angeline by Michael Symon (which served notable guests this weekend including "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Kim D.) and before the show at Borgata's Gypsy Bar, where guests sipped on cocktails named after Cher's most iconic hits.

As the crowd ascended the escalator to The Event Center on Saturday evening, it was clear that the singer had hoards of lifelong fans (of all ages!) who had traveled from far and wide to see her show. And, surely much to every attendee's delight, when Cher hit the stage in a giant orange wig while singing "Woman's World," every seat in the house at Borgata's venue proved to be a good one.

Over the next hour and a half, Cher strutted her way through nearly 20 of the biggest hits of her decades-long career. Whether it was "Strong Enough," "Walking in Memphis," "The Shoop Shoop Song" or "Take Me Home," nearly every song got the adoring crowd going.

One highlight saw her singing a duet of "I Got You Babe" alongside a screen showing her late ex-husband, Sonny, while another fun moment came when she sang "Welcome to Burlesque" from the 2010 cult film, "Burlesque," that she starred in with Christina Aguilera.

Curiously missing from her set? Any sign of the ABBA cover album that she announced back in July. Considering that she sings multiple songs on the "Here We Go Again" soundtrack and recently dropped a critically-acclaimed cover of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!," it was disappointing that Cher didn't add any of those to her set. Surely, ABBA is always a crowd pleaser!

Of course, what took the show to new heights, though, were Cher's signature glitzy costumes, wigs and surprise-filled production. Whether she was rocking a metallic blue flapper dress with a matching wig, riding out onto the stage atop a fake magenta elephant or rocking her iconic sheer black bodysuit with a leather jacket and a giant black perm, the 72-year-old put on an age-defying display through the aesthetics of her show. Even if you came to a Cher concert just to see her estimated 11 costume changes and the thrill of her full-stage production, you wouldn't have left disappointed.

But it was how Cher ends the show that makes it one of the more memorable live experiences you can have: What better way to close a concert than to sing "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "Believe" back-to-back? Answer: There is none.

As the crowd continued to sing "Believe" as we made our way back down to the escalators -- perhaps to hit the slot machines or maybe to catch Cheat Codes at Premiere Nightclub at Borgata -- it became clear that all we really wanted to do was to turn back time and see Cher do her thing all over again.
