Vice TV Gives First Look at ‘Dark Side of the Ring’ and Football Spinoff Series (TV News Roundup)

Vice TV released the trailer for“Dark Side of the Ring,” which will premiere its third season on May 6 at 9 p.m., with its first spinoff series, “Dark Side of Football,” set to debut on May 13 at 10 p.m.

With its mission to expose hidden, heartbreaking and untold stories of professional wrestling, the new season of “Dark Side of the Ring” will explore some of the most dramatic moments in wrestling history. Its cast of insiders include Chris Jericho, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, Jon Moxley, Eric Bischoff, Jim Cornette, David Arquette and the former wife of Ultimate Warrior, Shari Tyree. The 14 episodes will also feature Brian Pillman, Nick Gage, Collision In Korea, Ultimate Warrior, Grizzly Smith and Dynamite Kid. In addition to writer Evan Husey, director Jason Eisener serves as executive producer. Watch the trailer below.

The fifth and final season of “The Bold Type” will premiere on May 26 at 10 p.m., Freeform announced Thursday. The fourth season left Kat, Jane and Sutton at their limits both personally and professionally at Scarlet Magazine. The final six episodes of the series will celebrate the trio’s journey into becoming who they were each meant to be. The series stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy, Stephen Conrad Moore and Melora Hardin. Nikohl Boosheri will recur as fan-favorite character Adena El-Amin, and Carson Kressley will guest star as himself in the season premiere. The series is executive produced by Wendy Straker Hauser, Matt McGuinness, David Bernad, Joanna Coles, Brian Madden, Ruben Fleischer and Sandrine Gros d’Aillon.

Also in today’s TV news roundup, Marissa Cuevas (“Midnight, Texas”) joined the cast of the CW’s “Kung Fu.” She will play Nadia, the smart, feisty, charming personal assistant of Evan’s boss who sees and hears everything. She’s always been a discreet professional until she catches wind of a coverup of a massive conspiracy. She brings her concerns to Evan (Gavin Stenhouse) and together they embark on a dangerous mission to bring the scandal to light. Previously, Cuevas recurred on Netflix series “What/If.” She is repped by The Kohner Agency and BMK-ENT.

Showtime has released a trailer for the fourth season of “The Chi,” which premieres on May 23 at 9 p.m. Created and executive produced by Lena Waithe, the fourth season follows Jake, Papa and Kevin as they confront the harsh reality of how the world views young, Black men in the aftermath of an act of police brutality. As the three friends reckon with a broken system, the aftershocks ripple across the South Side, inspiring friends and neighbors to rise up and take action. The cast of the fourth season includes Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps and Birgundi Baker. In addition to Waithe, Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of Freedom Road Productions, Rishi Rajani and showrunner Justin Hillian serve as executive producers.

Disney Plus revealed a trailer for the second season of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which premieres on May 14. In the second season, the East High Wildcats, who are preparing to perform “Beauty and the Beast” as their spring musical, face off against rival school North High to win a prestigious and cutthroat student theater competition. The series stars Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders. Derek Hough, Olivia Rose Keegan, Roman Banks, Andrew Barth Feldman and Asher Angel will guest star this season. The series is created and executive produced by Tim Federle.

The Smithsonian Channel and Paramount Plus have released a trailer for the upcoming documentary “Cher & The Loneliest Elephant,” which will premiere on Paramount Plus on April 22 as a special Earth Day presentation. It will also air on the Smithsonian Channel on May 19 at 8 p.m. The documentary follows the international singer as she travels to Pakistan on a mission to oversee the relocation of Kaavan, who became known as the “world’s loneliest elephant” after his partner Saheli died in 2012. Using her celebrity to help drive a cause that grew out of a social media campaign, Cher teamed up with expert veterinarians, animal aid groups and sanctuary owners to give Kaavan a better life.

Starz announced its new comedy series “Run The World” will premiere on May 16. Set in Harlem, the series follows a group of smart, funny, and vibrant thirty-something Black women who are fiercely loyal best friends and navigating career highs and lows, hookups and heartbreaks that causes them to re-evaluate who they are and where they are going. “Run The World” stars Amber Stevens West, Andrea Bordeaux, Bresha Webb, Corbin Reid, Stephen Bishop, Tosin Morohunfola, Erika Alexander, Nick Sagar, Jay Walker and guest star Tonya Pinkins. Series creator Leigh Davenport and showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser serve as executive producers.

ViacomCBS International Studios Distribution (VIS) announced the addition of 400 hours of factual content from the Smithsonian Channel to its sales catalog. This includes titles such as “Reclaiming History: Our Native Daughters,” “Making Tracks on Mars,” “Virus Hunting: Cave to Covid” and “Tomb Hunters.” They also acquired the exclusive rights to globally distribute the docuseries “A Real Dream (Un Sueño Real),” which addresses key topics such as gender equality, motherhood and sexual diversity. Additionally, VIS announced several deals for their factual portfolio. U.S. audiences can enjoy the first two seasons of “Secrets of The Royal Palaces” on American Public Television, while “ABBA: Secrets of Their Greatest Hits” and “The Story of Songs” were picked up in Poland for Canal+ and Canal+ Family. The first two seasons of “5 Mistakes That Caught a Killer” were licensed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with Seven One Entertainment Group, revealing how key pieces of evidence have brought killers to justice. In Australia, “Diana Princess of Wales: In Her Own Words” was picked up by Nine Network, which explores Princess Diana’s personal life through recorded interviews.

Julie Pizzi, the new President of Bunim/Murray Productions, has promoted three senior executives on her team at the Banijay-owned studio. Pizzi, who was promoted to her new role in February, named Rupert Dobson to executive vice president of development, Farnaz Farjam to executive vice president of current programming and John Greco as the studio’s new chief operating officer. Earlier this year, Paramount Plus debuted the studio’s unscripted series “The Real World Homecoming: New York” and “The Challenge: All Stars,” while Facebook recently launched the studio’s “Sway Life and House of Creators.”

LGBTQ+ talk show “Brunch Date with Stan & Kristen” will premiere April 11 at 2 p.m. ET/ 11 a.m. PT on Tello and CampTV. Hosted by comedy and entertainment writer Stan Zimmerman and Spotlight Productions founder Kristen Carroll, the series will feature celebrity guests, games and a weekly human interest story about local heroes. Guests include Mindy Sterling, Liz Torres, Candis Cayne and Amanda Bearse, and episodes will also be available on the Tello app and the respective streaming channels’ websites.

Mark Waglberg, Hunter Biden and The Wallflowers will be on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tonight, while “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” will have Carey Mulligan, Caleb McLaughlin and Kali Uchis. Padma Lakshmi will be on “A Little Late with Lilly Singh.”
