Who needs to believe in life after love when you can believe in the magic of Christmas? Cher is finally gifting us with a holiday album, and she’s previewing it with lead single “DJ Play a Christmas Song.” (Our condolences to the “no Christmas music before Halloween” camp.)
Cher’s Christmas arrives October 20th via Warner, and pre-orders are ongoing. It comprises 13 songs total, supplementing a nice collection of classic tunes like “Santa Baby” and “Run Run Rudolph” with a handful originals. It also boasts a pretty wild grab-bag of featured artists, including Stevie Wonder (OK, cool), Cyndi Lauper (nice), Michael Bublé (naturally), and… Tyga.
“DJ Play a Christmas Song” is a rebel’s anthem for anyone whose parents told them Santa Claus would skip their house if they didn’t go to sleep. It’s got a classic four-on-the-floor beat and some subtle sleigh bells, as Cher sings of wanting to break a sweat on the dance floor all through the night: “It’s cold outside, but it’s warm in here/ And that’s the only thing I want this year,” she proclaims in her iconic contralto, glossing over the hassle of waiting in the club’s coat check line.

Cher — entertainer, fashion icon, friend of the animals — is also set to be the subject of an upcoming biopic, though very few details about it have been revealed.
