Chelsea Handler criticized over 'homophobic' tweet about Republicans: 'Do better Chelsea. This kind of joke is tired.'
Chelsea Handler is facing backlash for a controversial tweet on National Coming Out Day. The 43-year-old comedian attempted to take a swipe at Republicans — Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in particular — but her joke fell flat online with both political parties.
If you’re wondering why Republicans took a sick day today, it’s probably because it’s #NationalComingOutDay. Looking at you @LindseyGrahamSC

Handler, who just started shooting her Netflix documentary on white privilege, was called out on Twitter for being homophobic, unfunny, and unoriginal.
are you there, homophobia? it’s me, chelsea. https://t.co/eGFNShpXEt

Chelsea Handler continues to be one of the worst “woke” comedians who loves making homophobic jokes https://t.co/TiZwRHpRx1

Why is there such a gulf in understanding this fact: being gay is not something to shame or embarrass someone with.
It’s staggering that, at this point, people who appear to be our community’s allies still don’t get it.— Jean-Paul Bevilacqua (@jpbevi) October 11, 2018
Haha yeah being gay is embarassing what a cool joke to tell in 2018

At what point are you going to learn that coming out isn’t a joke made about people, even if they’re evil. Is it today? I hope it’s today.

I would rather go see Lindsey Graham talk than see Chelsea, and I abhor Republicans.

Not sure homophobic insults are the cleverest means of attacking opponents…
Yikes.

This is a lot less funny and way more homophobic than you think it is

Our sexuality isn’t your punchline. Don’t use homophobic jokes to make fun of homophobes like @LindseyGrahamSC . It reinforces the idea that queer is bad and heterosexuality is good. Also, its lazy. Repubs are a flaming garbage fire and THIS is your joke ?! Booooo

While you are making your doc on white privilege you should also consider straight privledge. We live in a world where homophobia exists and where straight is the default which is why we have days like this. Making jokes about coming out does nothing towards erasing the default.

This isn’t the first time the former talk show host has been called out for homophobic humor. In August, she was criticized by Out for a tweet about Jeff Sessions.
Jeff Sessions is definitely a bottom.

In January, Handler was blasted as “anti-gay” after slamming Graham, calling him a closeted homosexual. She tweeted, “Holy, f***, Holy f***. I just [watched] the video of trumps bipartisan ‘meeting’ yesterday. Hey, @LindsayGraham, what kind of d*** sucking video do they have on you for you 2 be acting like this? Wouldn’t coming out be more honorable?”
Handler, who considers herself a LGBTQ advocate, doesn’t typically respond to backlash over her tweets.
