“Cheers” stars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson to reunite to share tales from sitcom, interview celebs

Former Cheers costars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson are set to reunite for a podcast. Premiering June 12, Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (Sometimes) will see the longtime pals reconnect three decades after the end of the acclaimed sitcom as they sit down with special guests to "dig beyond the career highlights and into the stuff of life that makes us who we are," per the podcast release.

While listeners can expect tales from Danson and Harrelson's time on the sitcom as bar owner Sam Malone and bartender Woody Boyd, respectively, the podcast from SiriusXM and Team Coco will mostly serve as a "freewheeling exchange of laughter and wisdom" as the charismatic duo reconnect with each other and the friends (Jane Fonda! Martin Short! Laura Dern!) they've made throughout their careers — "that is, when Ted can get a hold of Woody!"

Other upcoming guests include Eric Andre, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Simu Liu, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Conan O’Brien, and Mary Steenburgen.

“Though I’ve always dreaded small talk at a cocktail party, I’ve found that it is a genuine privilege to sit down with someone for a deep, uninterrupted conversation," Danson said in a statement. "With this podcast, we’ll do just that. And that I get to do it with Woody, my dear friend of many decades, is the cherry on top of the sundae."

Harrelson added, “The best part about doing this podcast is that it’s given me an excuse to hang out with Ted. Sure we’ll talk with interesting guests, and sure we’ll share some laughs along the way, but the biggest win will be rekindling our romance, I mean friendship, after all this time."

The Emmy-winning sitcom ran for 11 seasons on NBC between 1982 and 1993 and followed the regulars of a Boston bar where everybody knew your name. Danson and co. recently reunited at the 2023 Emmy Awards and, before that, at last year's ATX Television Festival for the sitcom's 30th anniversary, where Danson and costar George Wendt reminisced about the good — and stomach-churning — times on the show.

According to Wendt, he and Danson once puked with Harrelson out of solidarity after the latter, who is a vegetarian, discovered he had eaten meat. "We had catered Chinese food, and Woody found out after about 20 minutes that he was eating pork," Wendt recalled. "And he decided to go purge. So I told him, 'Out of solidarity, I will purge with you.' And Ted said, 'I'll purge, too.' There were only three stalls in the Stage 25 men's room and I'll tell you this: You don't want to laugh while puking."
