“Cheers” Stars Enjoy 'Long-Overdue Class Reunion' at Emmys Awards 2023 — Prove Everybody Still Knows Their Names

Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt from the beloved ‘80s sitcom reunited at the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night

The Cheers cast was celebrated where everybody knows their names!

Monday’s 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards featured a list of legendary TV reunions; among them was a segment featuring appearances from Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt, who each starred on the beloved ‘80s NBC sitcom.

The group appeared onstage standing around a replica of the show's set at the titular bar, with Danson and company behind the bar as host Anthony Anderson introduced the reunion.

"Anthony, thank you for getting us all here," Danson said. "Ah, this feels so nice to be here in front of all of you, thank you."

"Ted, don't you just think about it as a long overdue class reunion, huh?" Ratzenberger, 76, added. "Being together brings back some great memories from show we're all very proud of."

Perlman, 75, then chimed in to request an envelope for the Cheers cast to present an award — and George Wendt walked in through the stage door with the envelope for outstanding directing for a comedy series. The Bear's Christopher Storer, who was not present at Sunday's awards ceremony, won that award, and the group also presented him with outstanding writing for a comedy series.

Cheers — which aired 11 seasons between 1982 and 1993 — followed the community formed at a local Boston bar. Danson played bar owner and retired baseball pro Sam Malone. Grammar was another face for the series as Frasier Crane, the radio psychiatrist who went on to have his own spinoff, Frasier.

Shelley Long (Diane Chambers) and Woody Harrelson (Woody Boyd) were absent from the tribute, as was Kirstie Alley (Rebecca Howe), who died in 2022.

The barfly comedy wasn’t the only show honored during Monday’s broadcast. Cast members from The Sopranos were also slated to reunite, among several other iconic shows.

Ahead of the 2023 show, Emmys host Anthony Anderson discussed the reunions with PEOPLE.

“We are paying tribute to iconic shows that have changed the scope of television and entertainment by being on the air,” he shared. “We're going to be paying homage to them, having a lot of cast members come back as themselves, as these characters, and there's going to be a little interchange between me and them on the sets of their shows.”
