Jamie Foxx has finally spoken out about his recent hospitalization. On Friday, July 21, the actor posted a video on Instagram, where he explains why he has remained relatively hidden from the public eye since May: “I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through,” he said. “I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to what updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that man... I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through."

The nature of Foxx's medical emergency is still unknown, but he seems to be recovering well. Earlier this month, TMZ spotted him relaxing in Chicago. The outlet posted a video of Foxx cruising on a boat in the Chicago River—and, you know, noticing the camera pointing his way, the actor graciously throws up the peace sign. For good measure, TMZ added: "We've seen more footage of Jamie spending a night out on the town in the Chicago area Saturday, getting active on his feet, no less, and looking to be in great spirits there too."

It's an encouraging report from both the actor and TMZ, which follow the last update about Foxx's recovery, via his daughter, Corrine: “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating,” she wrote on her Instagram story in May. “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support. We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!”

The Foxx family's initial statement regarding his health also arrived via Corrine: “We wanted to share that my father Jamie Foxx experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily due to quick action and great care he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Hopefully, Foxx's recent update—plus the fact the man is playing pickleball!—means all is well with one of our favorite actors. On that end, here's one more friendly reminder before we go, folks: Foxx's new film, They Cloned Tyrone, is now streaming on Netflix.
