Cheboygan, Inland Lakes, Onaway hold 2023 Homecoming festivities

CHEBOYGAN – Homecoming is always a huge event in Cheboygan.

This past week was no different for Cheboygan Area High School, which hosted different events for several days.

During halftime of Friday night’s football game between the Cheboygan Chiefs and Boyne City Ramblers, Cheboygan’s 2023 Homecoming court was recognized.

Named as Cheboygan’s 2023 Homecoming queen was senior Libby VanFleet while senior Dylan Balazovic was named Homecoming king.

Joining Balazovic and VanFleet on this year’s Cheboygan Homecoming court were fellow seniors Autumn Gingrich, Ava Bury, Marley Couture, Amelia Johnson, Bella Ecker, Caden Gardner, Kaleb Goodrich, Patrick Smith, Brennen Thater and Patrick Watson.

In football action, the Chiefs suffered a 21-7 loss to the Ramblers.

Also on Friday, Cheboygan hosted a Homecoming parade that made its way downtown and finished up at Western Avenue Field. Earlier in the day, the high school held a pep assembly. The week’s events culminated with a Homecoming dance at the high school on Saturday night.

Cheboygan wasn't the only local community school hosting Homecoming this week. Over in Indian River, Inland Lakes held its Homecoming festivities, which included a football game on Friday.

Also present at the parade on Friday were Keegan Mosher and Ana Schramm, Cheboygan's 2022 Homecoming king and queen.

At the football game, seniors Grant Blumke and Claire Feagan were named Inland Lakes’ 2023 Homecoming king and queen.

Other members of the 2023 Inland Lakes Homecoming court included Kaydince Fate, Marissa Kolly, Erica Taglauer, Lakyn Thompson, Connor Wallace, Sam Schoonmaker, Payton Teuthorn and Jake Willey.

The Bulldogs had a successful night on the gridiron, improving to 6-1 with a 48-0 victory over Pellston.

Onaway was the third area high school to hold its homecoming week. Members of their senior Homecoming class included Justin Kramer-St. Germain, Mercedes Russ, Jackson Chaskey, Kalli Szymoniak, Gavin Green, Trinity Splan, Brendon Brewbaker and Peggy Artrip.

In Thursday night's Homecoming football game, the Cardinals suffered a 52-40 defeat to Central Lake.
