The Group A finals took place on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday, April 17 on “Queen Night.” After singing their hearts out for panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora, the bottom two acts were eliminated. First to go was Ugly Sweater, whose rendition of “I Want to Break Free” put him in last place. The soulful ball of yarn ripped off his mask and revealed himself as Grammy-nominated music legend Charlie Wilson.

“I had a great time here,” he told host Nick Cannon during his unmasked interview. “The fans are great!” Earlier in the episode Ugly Sweater hinted at giving Nick dating advice, and people wanted to know exactly what was said. “I can’t say it on TV, I don’t want to be bleeped,” he joked before adding, “12 kids? Come on, he know exactly what I told him to do.”

Robin was the only panelist to guess Wilson’s identity. Jenny, Ken and Rita named Aaron Neville, Al Green and Smokey Robinson, respectively. In his clue package, Ugly Sweater revealed, ” “I love being this colorful sweater, and I’ll be yarned, I made it to the Group A finals! I can’t wait to honor Queen with a song about freedom, baby. They say what’s old is new again, and I say no, I’ve been upcycled, and recycled more times than I can count. Inspired everyone from Snoop Dogg to Nirvana. Talk about a fashion statement! I even worked with the legendary Tupac — I like to keep that little tidbit in my pocket. Yep, you can say I’ve influenced a soul circle of stars, all by doing my own thing. As a sweater who was once tossed aside, getting to the quarterfinals will show you can always break free from anything, whether it’s your past, your dirty laundry or your skinny jeans. Just roll up your sleeves and do what you love like it’s going out of style.” Visual clues included a pool float, a praying hands emoji, a bar of 24k gold and a crying face emoji.

Charlie was the eighth celebrity unmasked this season following Kevin Hart as BookSavannah Chrisley as Afghan HoundJoe Bastianich as Spaghetti & Meatballs, Billy Bush as Sir Lion, Sisqo as Lizard, Colton Underwood as Lovebird and DeMarcus Ware as Koala.
