Charlie Sheen Re-Teams With Two and a Half Men’s Chuck Lorre on Sebastian Maniscalco Comedy Bookie — First Look

Apparently time really does heal all wounds. How else do you explain Charlie Sheen’s role in Chuck Lorre’s latest comedy?

Nearly 13 years after Sheen’s infamous meltdown led to his dismissal from CBS’ Two and a Half Men, the three-time Emmy nominee is reuniting with Lorre on Max’s Bookie, a single-camera series headlined by stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco.

The trailer, which was released Wednesday, sees Sheen play a heightened version of himself — a client of veteran Los Angeles bookie Danny (Maniscalco) who has come to collect on his debts. Sheen, however, is a bit short on cash, and offers Danny a peculiar make-good.

“It was really healing,” Lorre tells TVLine of his reunion with Sheen. “It really felt good. It felt like we were closing the book on some horrible times, and we had a good time.

“It was a painful couple of years,” Lorre says of their infamous falling out. “We were making a TV show, hoping to make people laugh, and we did that for eight-and-a-half years, 170-something episodes of [Two and a Half Men], and I’m really proud of that work that we did. It was really gratifying to do a little thing [together] again.”

Sheen appears in two episodes during Bookie‘s first season. Created by Lorre and frequent collaborator Nick Bakay (Mom, Young Sheldon), the eight-episode series follows the aforementioned Danny just as “the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatens to upend his business for good,” according to the official logline. “Alongside best friend and former NFL player Ray (Queen Sugar’s Omar J. Dorsey), side-hustling sister Lorraine (NCIS: New Orleans’ Vanessa Ferlito) and reluctantly reformed drug dealer Hector (Lost’s Jorge Garcia), Danny must contend with his increasingly unstable clients as he tries to settle their debts – all while making plenty of risky bets of his own.”

Andrea Anders (That ’90s Show) and Maxim Swinton (Fleishman Is in Trouble) also star.
