In 1996, Robison released his first solo album, Bandera. He’s best known, however, for his 2001 album Step Right Up, which produced his only Top 40 Country song, “I Want You Bad.” The song spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and peaked at No. 35.

In 2003, Robison served as a judge in Season 1 of USA’s Nashville Star. The competition reality TV show series followed amateur singers as they competed for several weeks to see who would be voted the next country music superstar. The show ran for six seasons and ultimately featured famous singers as judges including, Bret Michaels, Blake Shelton and Jewel. Country stars LeAnn Rhimes and Billy Ray Cyrus each hosted a season.

The singer’s musical career came to a halt in 2018 when he announced his retirement after complications from a medical procedure left him with the “permanent inability to sing.”

Robison was formerly married to Emily Strayer, a founding member of country group The Chicks (fka The Dixie Chicks).
