Charlie Brown's pal Franklin will be featured in a Peanuts special. Here's how to watch

A new streaming animated special will provide a chance to get to know more about Franklin, the only Black main member of the Peanuts gang from the celebrated comic strip.

And it looks like here he won’t be ostracized to a side of the table come mealtime.

Franklin is featured in a new special

Apple TV released a trailer Friday for “Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin,” the origin story of the new kid in Charlie Brown's town. We see him having trouble making new friends, having just moved there.

He moves a lot because of his dad’s military job, and relies on a notebook filled with his grandfather’s advice on friendship.

Here's where to watch the Peanuts Franklin special

The special will stream on video subscription service Apple TV+, beginning Feb. 16, 2024.

Who is Franklin?

The kiddo was introduced in the Peanuts comic strip in 1968, its first Black character. His last name was revealed to be Armstrong in the 1994 animated television special “You're in the Super Bowl, Charlie Brown.”

A Black cartoonist is among the creators.

One of the writers is African-American cartoonist Robb Armstrong, who created the Jump Start comic strip. Armstrong worked on the story with Scott Montgomery.

Other writers are Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, all executive producers.

Will Franklin sit alone?

It looks like the gang won’t leave him sitting all by his lonesome on one side of the table, a la the happenings during Thanksgiving feast. The trailer shows the crew inviting Franklin to sit with them in a lunchroom.
