The two British pop stars released their first-ever collaboration on Thursday

Charli XCX and Sam Smith are ready to party.

On Thursday, the pop star, 35, and the singer-songwriter, 31, released their first-ever collaboration, “In the City” (out via Atlantic Records).

The standalone single — produced by Charli, ILYA, Omer Fedi, her frequent collaborator A.G. Cook and boyfriend George Daniel of The 1975 — is a dazzling dance-pop song that’ll call to mind the most amazing nights spent out until dawn, and inspire listeners to get to the club ASAP in order to experience the next one.

With a bumping bass throughout and club-ready techno beat that explodes after the chorus, paired with the two stars’ melodic voices, the song is a euphoric meeting of their sounds.

“I never thought I would find it / But I found what I was lookin' for / I found it in the / In the city, in the dark,” both hitmakers repeat throughout the song.

The “Beg for You” singer, who came up in the U.K. nightlife scene in the early 2010s and known for her collaborations with rising artists, shared a statement in a press release about the track.

“The song is about finding the people you truly love and connect with through wild nights out and partying in magical places,” she said. “It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into queer spaces and those once in a lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there.”

The British singer/producer (whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison) announced she was teaming up with the Grammy winner last week with a post of the single artwork on Instagram.

The “Unlock It” artist previously teased the single on social media on Oct. 6 by posting a clip of herself working in the studio and playing a clip of it. “It’s cute,” she previewed the track in the video before putting it on and dancing to it.

The “Unholy” singer celebrated the release by sharing stylish black and white photos of themself in Balenciaga sunglasses on Instagram and writing, “IN THE CITY OUT NOW @charli_xcx ❤️‍🔥🌃,” in the caption.

Their collaborator showed her support in the comments by adding several beating heart emojis, and Paris Hilton also showed her love by dropping a heart-eyes emoji.

The song arrives several days after Charli XCX stood up for Smith online after seeing hateful comments directed towards them on social media.

"Hi everyone. I’m about to release a song with Sam Smith, and the experience has been really interesting," she said in a TikTok. "Never in my life have I seen someone receive so many hateful comments online. It’s been really disheartening."

Although she did not specify what negativity she saw, she continued to express kind words toward the Gloria artist. "At the same time, I am so proud of Sam’s ability to withstand that because I know I certainly couldn’t withstand it," she added. "Sam, I love you, I love our song together, and I am in awe of your strength.”

“In the City” is the latest single featuring Charli XCX among the lead artists since she released “Speed Drive,” her contribution to the Barbie movie soundtrack over the summer. The track became the singer’s first single to enter the Billboard Hot 100 since her 2014 song "Break the Rules."

In September, she joined Addison Rae on her track “2 Die 4” off her AR EP.

Sam Smith — who also released a song for the Barbie movie, “Man I Am” — shared their fourth studio album Gloria in January. They supported the record on an international tour that kicked off in April and will soon wrap up in November.
