Charli D’Amelio recalls her initial reaction to boyfriend Landon Barker’s very specific and personal debut song, “Friends With Your Ex”: “I was like, ‘Oh it’s a great song — you can never put that out,’” she quips in a new clip from The D’Amelio Show, debuting exclusively on Rolling Stone.

D’Amelio had plenty of reason to be wary of the song, which is not-so-subtly about the pop-punk/TikTok love triangle involving Barker, D’Amelio, and her ex, Huddy. The rest of the clip finds Barker doing his best to plead his case to get D’Amelio involved in one of his music videos, whether it’s the “sweet song” or “Friends With Your Ex.” When the boy, bless his heart, floats “Friends With Your Ex,” he even tries to insist, “I just don’t want to bring drama to you, because that’s not even, like, what it’s supposed to be.”

D’Amelio, not missing a beat, replies, “Bullshit, bullshit.”

Later in the clip, D’Amelio says in a talking head interview, “Of course, I want to do a music video. But I also don’t want to throw myself in some drama that I just really don’t care for. It takes a toll on you when you have a public relationship.”

Spoiler alert: D’Amelio did end up appearing in the “Friends With Your Ex” video, which dropped last week. The clip also features appearances from Joe Chavez, Michael Tua, Chazdon Jeffery, Carl Dawson, and Zack Lugo.

Season Three of The D’Amelio Show premiered earlier this month on Hulu. Episode three — from which the “Friends With Your Ex” discourse was taken — will premiere tomorrow, Sept. 27.
