Based on the life of talk show host Wendy Williams, the documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? premiered on Lifetime on February 24, 2024. It consisted of two episodes, with the second one airing the next day.

Where Is Wendy Williams? showcased the recent struggles of the beloved former talk show host. Reports suggest that, in recent years, she has encountered several financial and health issues. In addition, her iconic The Wendy Williams Show was canceled in 2022. The talk show ran for 14 years, after which Sherri replaced Williams.

The documentary has received backlash for its theme and concept. Critics have called Where Is Wendy Williams? unsettling and exploitative. In addition, many wondered how a project like this was put on display for public consumption. Recently, American radio host Charlamagne tha God stated that he was shocked that Wendy’s family signed off on the documentary. He even said that the documentary was very hard to watch.

He stated, “I don’t know who she has around her that truly cares and I was very very shocked and surprised to see that her family was executive producers of this project.” Charlamagne tha God is a radio host, comedian, and TV personality. Furthermore, he spent time as second mic on The Wendy Williams Experience with Wendy Williams on VH1.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of Where Is Wendy Williams? reads, “Over the course of two years, cameras chronicle the former television and radio host Wendy Williams in the next phase of her life after the end of her talk show; the reality of Wendy’s life after she was placed under financial guardianship.”

According to Page Six, Charlamagne tha God stated that the Wendy Williams documentary made him “sad.” However, he also said that the project does not diminish her legacy. The radio show host said that Wendy’s story is far from the end because “she is still here on this planet.”

He added, “I just hope that we all can learn from this. When you see great people fall, don’t laugh; learn from it. It was just poor life choices.” In 2023, officials diagnosed Wendy Williams with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. She is currently residing in a facility under the financial control of a court-appointed guardian.

Aside from this, Charlamagne tha God also revealed that he knew Wendy’s family members. He stated, “I know her son, Kevin, her niece, nephew, sister and brother all love her and care for her. So it’s very interesting to see them participate in this documentary knowing the state she was in. I was just like, damn. You could look at her and tell something’s not right. So why would you want this out there?”

He continued, “You can’t erase who Wendy Williams is. You just have to look at all of this in the totality of her existence. Her story is not over. That’s the beauty about life: it is never over until it’s over.”
