What is it about “Bachelorettes” on “Dancing with the Stars”? They’re generally pretty great at dancing, and their popularity is through the roof. Will Charity Lawson be the latest to prevail on the show? She would be the third “Bachelorette” alumna in five seasons to claim the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy.

In season 28 Hannah Brown, partnered with pro Alan Bersten, claimed the Mirror Ball Trophy. The very next year in season 29 the prize went to Kaitlyn Bristowe, who was teamed up with Artem Chigvintsev. Those were the first US Mirror Ball victories for both Bersten and Chigvintsev, so having a “Bachelorette” by your side is undeniably good luck.

In season 31 Gabby Windey and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy finished second, but that was the season that streamed exclusively on Disney+. Perhaps Windey would have beaten social media star Charli D’Amelio had “DWTS” still aired on ABC, the same network that airs (and breathlessly promotes) all the “Bachelor Nation” shows.

“DWTS” is back on ABC this year, so will the “Bachelor” franchise’s powerful fan base be back at full strength? Like the women who preceded her, Lawson has proved to be an adept dancer, so her scores shouldn’t be a problem. It might all come down to viewer votes in the end, and that’s where the judges’ most common critique of her performances could be a factor.

The panelists have praised Lawson as one of the best technical dancers in the competition with pristine lines, shapes and positions. But they have often found her routines to be lacking in emotional connection. Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli thought she overcame that problem during her “Semi-Finals” rumba, but if the judges have had trouble connecting to her emotionally, might the viewing audience feel the same way?

Like Bristowe, though, Lawson is partnered with Chigvintsev, so perhaps he’ll be the good luck charm this time.
