Chargers end fears of lost season for rookie Mike Williams, place him on active roster
The Los Angeles Chargers received a jolt of good news by activating rookie wide receiver Mike Williams off the physically unable to perform list and inserting him onto the active roster.
The report comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Williams’ health is a huge plus for an offense that has been snakebitten by injury at the position and for a team that was concerned it had lost him for the season. Last year, Keenan Allen – on the heels of a shortened 2015 campaign – suffered a torn ACL in a Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Allen has missed over 40 percent of the Chargers’ games in four years.

The 6-foot-4 Williams, meanwhile, is a super talent who amassed 98 catches, 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns for the national champion Clemson Tigers last season. The Chargers subsequently drafted him with the seventh overall pick, only to have placed him on the PUP list in late July due to a herniated disk in his lower back.
The Chargers open their season on Monday Night Football against AFC West division foe Denver.
