Chapel Hart find global, TV acclaim as they help celebrate Grand Ole Opry's 98th Anniversary

A year after debuting on the Grand Ole Opry and receiving three consecutive standing ovations, Mississippi-born country trio Chapel Hart are performing worldwide and appearing on NBC television shows at all hours of the day.

Their appeal is on the rise — and not just in a manner defined by their gender or skin color.

This week, they'll appear at the Grand Ole Opry's 98th birthday celebration weekend. First, they're on the Oct. 6 edition of the Opry. At 1 p.m. CT the next day, they will appear in the Opry House's Studio A for a special performance and fan Q&A event saluting the trio's female country music heroes.

Given that the current touchstones defining their appeal are so clearly retro-fitted, there are moments in a recent conversation with The Tennessean on the trio's tour bus when it seems their bellwethers of success are more closely linked to standards set in 1983 than present day.

Old-school tour cycles in the modern era

Currently, they're touring in support of "Glory Days," an album featuring Dolly Parton-reimagining hit "You Can Have Him Jolene" and a Loretta Lynn cover, "Fist City."

In the past two months, the trio has appeared on NBC's Today with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush and America's Got Talent, made their United Kingdom debut on three different stages of the Long Road Festival, plus played nine other gigs.

It's an arduous pace.

"We're in the habit of having moments where we're just professional people making lifelong friends," jokes Chapel Hart's Trea Swindle about their recent TV appearances.

"From the janitor and security guys to the showrunners, we're known and loved throughout those TV buildings."

Obvious determination increases global appeal

Notably, their appearance on "America's Got Talent" followed their fifth-place finish a season prior.

2022 saw 20 million nationwide watch the trio run the emotional gauntlet on the program.

All four of "America's Got Talent's" 2022 season judges − Simon Cowell, Terry Crews, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara − pressed the golden buzzer and sent them directly to the live shows.

Those live events saw them receive valuable praise from Lynn, Parton and Tanya Tucker.

They appeared on the Opry multiple times in the past twelve months and have achieved as many standing ovations as appearances.

Moreover, they've just released "Fam Damily," their latest single from their 2023-released album "Glory Days."

About "Fam Damily," the song — like many pieces of their catalog — the trio mistakenly believed people were slowly warming to outside their sizable core fanbase. However, at the Long Road Festival, Swindle notes that they were already met with a crowd that knew many of their new single's lyrics.

"When we can sing about how crazy our family is with all of our fussing and fighting — and people relate to that, there's something [more profound] about people being willing to have dialogue across cultures and generations, that's happening that is important to see occurring," she said.

Part of country's pop evolution

Notable country names, including fellow Mississippian and Country Music Hall of Famer Marty Stuart, award-winning vocal duo The War and Treaty, plus leading 2023 Country Music Association Award nominees Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll are all vocal supporters of Chapel Hart's work.

Still not signed to a major label and always seeking more extensive touring opportunities, Danica Hart is grateful for their popularity among their peers and aware of what could lay ahead.

"When the mailman is delivering mail in your neighborhood, get excited because your house could be next," she jokes, reciting something an elderly relative told her.

"This isn't a social media flash in the pan," adds Swindle.

"[Chapel Hart] is now building timeless relationships in places where country stars have always been well regarded. We're expanding into country music's forefront."
