Channing Tatum Wisely Wants Tom Hanks in the 'Splash' Remake

Typically when it’s announced that a classic movie is going to be remade, a lot of grumbling follows. But this time, it sounds as if we might have a really fun movie on our hands. In August it was announced that a new Splash was coming our way, this time gender-swapped with Channing Tatum on board to be the “merperson” and Jillian Bell to be his love interest.

Of course, the original movie starred Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks in those respective roles. After giving his thumbs-up on a remake, Hanks then suggested something awesome. At the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie, Inferno, he told reporters, “Look, I think if they were really going to be bold, I would come back as Allen Bauer, and I would go off with Channing Tatum. That would be a bold movie. And I am suggesting it right now.”

Whether or not we’re due for an epic romance between Hanks and Tatum remains to be seen, but we do know now that Tatum definitely wants the Oscar-winning Hollywood icon to be in the remake. At an event at Universal Studios, Tatum told Entertainment Tonight that he and Bell had been too nervous to approach Hanks and tell him that they wanted to do this, but now, Tatum said, “I will be washing Tom’s car [and] doing everything that I can to get him in that movie!”
