They Are Officially Divorced

A year and a half after they announced their split, actors Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are officially divorced.

According to TMZ, "The former couple recently filed court docs asking the court to grant the divorce while they hash out a property settlement and custody agreement. As for why they wanted the divorce decree now ... we're told they're both in relationships and it just makes things easier. It also clears the path if they want to remarry."

The former couple is still working out the custody and support details for their 6-year-old daughter Everly.

The Break Up Announcement

The former couple, who met while making the movie Step Up, were married for nine years. They announced their split on Instagram in April 2018.

"We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.

There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy."

New Relationships

Since their break up, Tatum and Dewan have moved on to new relationships. Tatum has been dating British singer Jessie J since late 2018, and Dewan is expecting her first child with her serious boyfriend, Steve Kazee.

A source told People:

"Jenna’s relationship with Steve is very serious,” a source told the outlet. “So many things had to work for her to even consider dating again. And everything has clicked with Steve. [He] is very supportive of her as a mom. He is amazing with Everly. Jenna loves having Steve around. She feels very lucky to be dating him."

Handling The Split With Grace

Dewan explained in her book Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day that it was difficult to handle Tatum's new relationship at first.

"I was learning things about my ex most people wouldn't have to face — and over the internet, as it was happening. There I was, on a plane, alone, finding out about his new relationship. I was blindsided.

It was quite a challenge to remain graceful; to say the least. That's when your real character comes out. Instead of reacting the way I wanted to...I asked myself this: How do I choose grace in this moment? Had I not been practicing this way of life beforehand, I definitely wouldn't have handled this news very gracefully."
