Chance the Rapper Talks New Album, Hopes for the Next President: ‘If Anyone Could Do it, Kanye Could Do It’

It’s been a tough few days for Kanye West, though he can always rely on support from Chance the Rapper.

While cutting some live tracks for BBC Radio 1Xtra and sitting for an on-air Q&A, Chance backed Kanye’s ambitious goal to become the first rapper president.

“If anyone could do it, Kanye could do it. I don’t think Jay (Z) wants to be president of the U.S.,” Chance said. “I definitely don’t want to be president or any type of political shit.”

Chance also covered off the backstory to his involvement in Kanye’s The Life of Pablo, his relationship with outgoing president Barack Obama and plans for his first LP.

“What is next? I’ll probably put out an album, that’s what I’ve been thinking about,” Chance said. “I don’t know exactly the format every time when I’m making something but a lot of times I have an idea, and I think what I’m working on right now is an album. But I also think it’s in two parts.” The format, he continued, would be “something that you can consider an album, it might not be physical, or a disc or something, but an album that comes with its own live show is important.”

Earlier, Chance sent a timely message of goodwill to his fellow Chicagoan, who is being treated in an L.A. hospital with symptoms described as exhaustion.

“I want to extend a very special prayer to my big brother Kanye West,” he said during a chilled-out moment in his performance “All We Got” from Coloring Book. “I know there’s a lot of weird folks out there. But you already know I’m a hundred grand. And I just want to extend this prayer and extend this love all the way from Britain. I might come back early to come see this man. Happy Thanksgiving.”

Chance was in the U.K. for the now-canceled European leg of his Magnificent Coloring world tour.

The Coloring Book mixtape debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart in May, becoming the first streaming-exclusive set to reach the survey.
