Chance The Rapper Defends Kanye West’s Political Views On Twitter

And people were not too pleased.

Kanye West has made Internet tidal waves all day via some pretty polarizing tweets. Some of his comments on the social media site pertained to his admiration of Donald Trump. Not only did he clarify comments made to radio host Ebro Darden about his love of 45, but Ye’s co-sign of the controversial figure received a Twitter stamp of approval from Trump himself.

While many fans of the rap icon have tweeted their disapproval over the last few days, collaborator and friend Chance The Rapper is jumping to his defense with some tweets of his own.

Yeezy’s fellow Chicagoan took to social media to remind people that black people can choose whatever political affiliation they want. He wrote that he spoke to Kanye, and all is well with him.

“Talked to him two days ago,” Chance wrote in respond to a tweet asking if he’s spoken to Kanye recently. “[Kanye is] in a great space and not affected by folk tryna question his mental or physical health. Same Ye from the Vmas, same Ye from the telethon.”

“Black people don’t have to be democrats…Next President gon be independent,” he continued. He also tweeted a meme of a wincing JAY-Z. While there was no context, it should be noted that Donald Trump Jr. quote tweeted one of Chano’s tweets.

“It’s always incredible to watch a cultural shift happen in real time,” he wrote. “I respect those willing to take the lead breaking with convention. That takes guts… though there’s a better word for it,” next to two basketballs.
