“The Challenge”'s Derrick Kosinski and Wife Nicole Welcome First Baby Together, Son Maverick, on Mother's Day

PEOPLE exclusively revealed that the MTV reality star was expecting his second child — and first with his wife Nicole — last October

Derrick Kosinski is officially a boy-dad of two!

The Challenge competitor and his wife Nicole celebrated an extra special Mother's Day this year with the arrival of their first baby together, son Maverick John.

The reality star, 40, shared the good news with the world on Wednesday, May 15, posting a photo with Nicole, 29, and their newborn in the hospital on Instagram. The proud parents can be seen with wide grins as they cradle the infant, who sported a beige knit beanie for the Instagram photo.

"Happy Birthday Maverick John Kosinski! You made Mommy’s Day extra special this year. I love you both so much. 🥹💙," Derrick captioned his post.

Baby Maverick joins big brother Derrick Jr., the TV personality's 14-year-old son from a previous relationship.

PEOPLE exclusively announced the happy couple's pregnancy news in October. At the time, they shared their excitement about expanding their family.

"Adding to our family was always in our plans," said Derrick, who married Nicole in July 2022. "I know this baby will grace our family with so much joy and happiness,"

He continued, "My wife is already a great stepmom and I know she’ll be an amazing mom to our baby. We have grown a lot together over the years and I cannot wait to take on this next phase of our lives together. There’s no one else I rather be on this journey with."

The Challenge Mania podcast co-host told PEOPLE that both he and Nicole were fascinated by the growth of their one-on-the-way. Derrick said they used pregnancy apps to keep up with the baby's progress.

"It’s amazing how a baby can go from being the size of a poppy seed, to a brussel sprout, to a lime, we can see an image of it," he shared back in the fall.

Shortly after revealing their pregnancy with PEOPLE, the couple learned they were having a son at their gender reveal party. When Derrick's party popper exploded with blue powder and confetti, he raised his arms in victory and embraced Nicole while their loved ones cheered along.

"Boy Mom. Boy Dad. 💙🥰," Derrick captioned his video.

Even with two kids on his hands, the MTV icon told PEOPLE that he has no plans to step back from The Challenge franchise.

"The Challenge has always been a big part of my life and I will definitely be back if the timing is right, especially with two kids and a wife to support at home," Derrick — who most recently competed on The Challenge: All Stars season 3 — said in October.
