“The Challenge”'s Derrick Kosinski and His Wife Nicole Expecting Their First Baby Together (Exclusive)

"My wife is already a great stepmom and I know she’ll be an amazing mom to our baby," the three-time champ tells PEOPLE

Derrick Kosinski may be known as a pit bull when he competes on MTV's The Challenge, but he's about to become a bit more like a golden retriever.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the three-time champ and his wife Nicole are expecting their first baby together in May 2024.

"Adding to our family was always in our plans," says Derrick. "My wife and I are so excited and happy to be having this baby together."

The couple, who wed in July 2022, told their families the happy news over the weekend. "Both our families are super happy," says Derrick. He adds that his son, Derrick Jr., 14, "is very excited and can’t wait to be a big brother."

The reality star adds, "My wife is already a great stepmom and I know she’ll be an amazing mom to our baby. We have grown a lot together over the years and I cannot wait to take on this next phase of our lives together. There’s no one else I rather be on this journey with."

As of now, Derrick, 40, and Nicole, 28, who is a nurse, do not know the sex of the child, but are planning a gender reveal party in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, Derrick says he's "filling up a lot of water cups" for his wife. "Every morning we check the pregnancy apps together and read how the baby is growing and progressing which has been a really cool experience. It’s amazing how a baby can go from being the size of a poppy seed, to a brussel sprout, to a lime, we can see an image of it. I’ve also been waiting and looking for the bump every day!"

Even as a father of two, Derrick, who hosts the popular Challenge Mania podcast with Scott Yager and who most recently competed on The Challenge: All Stars season 3, has no plans to retire his Challenge jerseys any time soon.

"The Challenge has always been a big part of my life and I will definitely be back if the timing is right, especially with two kids and a wife to support at home," he says.

For now, though, he couldn't be more excited. "I know this baby will grace our family with so much joy and happiness," he says.
