Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther Costume and 5 Other Uncomfortable Superhero Duds

Captain America: Civil War will feature Chadwick Boseman’s first appearance as Black Panther. His costume looks pretty cool, but, as it turns out, it’s really hot and Boseman wasn’t a fan. He told Yahoo Movies, “It’s blazing hot … I’ve never been that hot before in my life, seriously.” Boseman is just one of many stars to have endured uncomfortable superhero duds.

Robert Downey Jr. rarely wears the full Iron Man suit (when you see Iron Man in his full getup, it’s either CG or a stuntman), and there’s a reason for that. “As we went further and further along, I realized I could wear the suit all the time, but I can’t wear the suit all the time and be an effective actor,” he said in a behind-the-scenes featurette for the first Iron Man.

Let’s go back in time to 1992 and Michael Keaton’s Batman Returns. They redesigned the costume to give it more flexibility than the 1989 version, but there was still a problem when it came to using the restroom. As he joked on Primetime Live, there were certain scenes in the movie where he was “going to the bathroom.”

Andrew Garfield was certainly someone who loved being Spider-Man, but at the end of the day, the outfit was a burden. In an interview with NPR in 2012, the former Webhead told David Greene, “It was very exciting, but very uncomfortable … You’re truly in spandex, which actually sucks.”

Jennifer Lawrence may well leave the role of Mystique behind because of her getup. She told EW, “I love working with Bryan [Singer], and I love these movies. It’s just the paint.” Her X-Men: Apocalypse co-star Olivia Munn might not be all blue, but she had a heck of time getting into her Psylocke wardrobe. “They lubricate the costume, and they lubricate me,” she explained on Conan.
