Chadwick Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward praised for emotional Golden Globes acceptance speech

Chadwick Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward delivered an emotional speech while accepting the late actor’s Golden Globe.

Boseman, who died of cancer in August 2020, posthumously won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role in George C Wolfe’s Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Ledward, appearing via video link, said: “He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices.”

Fighting back tears, she continued: “I don’t have his words but we have to take all the moment to celebrate all we love, so thank you, HFPA, for this opportunity to do exactly that.”

Boseman, who inspired audiences around the world in his role as a Black superhero in the Marvel film Black Panther, had been diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, but chose not to make the news public.

A statement posted on the actor’s Twitter account on Friday called him “a true fighter” and said he had “persevered through it all”.

He quietly married Ledward in the final months of his life.

Ledward has been widely praised for her speech.
