Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson, like thousands of others, is planning on placing a bet on Conor McGregor’s bout with Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 this weekend.

Before throwing any money down, however, Johnson wanted to go straight to the source.

He went to McGregor himself.

“Saturday will be my first UFC match,” Johnson said at Wednesday’s UFC 246 news conference in Las Vegas. “I’m not a gambling man, but if there was an event where I would bet the house, it would be Saturday. I wanna know before I bet this money, how confident are you in Saturday’s fight?”

“I’m extremely confident if you can’t tell,” McGregor replied. “I’m coming in with full preparation, full commitment and full confidence in my striking abilities and my shots. And who knows, maybe a submission? But, I’m going to be going for the knockout.”

Johnson played in the NFL from 2001-11, almost entirely with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is planning to try out as a kicker in the XFL next week too, and is a lifelong soccer fan.

Before that happens, though, it sounds like he’ll be at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to watch McGregor’s first bout of the year.

We’ll see if Ochocinco takes the advice or not.
