Central Park's Halloween display lights up after rain delay

Oct. 16—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Downtown Johnstown's Central Park will be filled with spooky Halloween-themed fog, fire and music that gets people's bones moving for the rest of this month.

Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership held its annual light-up night for its Park Boneyard Halloween display at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Although the light-up night had been scheduled for Saturday, it was postponed until Sunday due to Saturday's rainy weather.

"We never had to postpone it before, but we knew we just couldn't do it in the rain with the fire and fog that are part of the display," said Melissa Radovanic, president of Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership.

The animated musical display in the middle of the park features a 512-square-foot "cemetery" complete with pumpkins, tombstones, skeletons, Tiki torches, strobe lights and a fog machine. It plays "The Addams Family" theme song, "Ghostbusters," "This Is Halloween" and "Thriller" in a 12-minute song set.

The display will play from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night through Halloween, which is Oct. 31. In addition, visitors can walk through the 33 scarecrow displays that are part of a competition through Oct. 31.

This year, a gift shop in the park offers inexpensive toys and candy for children to enjoy while playing.

"It's good family fun," said Cody Black, of Johnstown, as her son Landon, 4, ran around the park dressed as Spider-Man on Sunday.
