Who doesn’t love some tipsy stars?! The Golden Globes is one of the few awards shows that serves food and drink to the star-studded audience during the broadcast, meaning celebrities occasionally imbibe a bit too much on the big night. In 2014, Cate Blanchett won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, for her role in Blue Jasmine. "Well that crept up. I have a few vodkas under my belt and now here we are," she said as she reached the podium. A couple of weeks later, she told The Telegraph that she'd had a few too many by the end of the show. "Unfortunately my category came up rather late in the evening so I was a couple of sheets to the wind," the Australia native told the U.K. outlet. "Once your name is read out it's a high like no other so I can't remember a lot. I hope I didn't do too many things I'll regret." It's not just the winners who have to keep it together though. Chrissy Teigen couldn’t control her emotions when her husband, John Legend, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song at the 2015 Golden Globes. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model became an iconic meme while Legend addressed the audience along with Common for their big win, “Glory” from Selma. “Sorry I don’t practice my cry face okay,” she tweeted later that night after the cameras caught her painful-looking cry face. “It’s been 5 minutes and I’m a meme.” In February 2021, Teigen, who'd since gone sober, admitted that she'd been over-served. “Happy anniversary to this drunk dumbass lmao,” she captioned an Instagram photo of the viral moment. The same month, the Cravings author responded to a tweet highlighting the moment: "May she forever live in the past lol.” The boozy vibe is nothing new at the Golden Globes. In 1973, Walter Matthau was on stage to present an award when he warned the audience that the alcohol never stopped flowing. “If everyone seems to be acting peculiar, it’s because we haven’t eaten yet — and all there is on the table is booze.” Whether they’ve admitted to being over-served (a la Blanchett) or walked onto the stage with a drink in hand, like host Ricky Gervais did in 2016, these famous faces might want to steer clear of the bar this year.
