Celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich will be in Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Dave’s Fresh Marketplace, 1000 Division St., East Greenwich.

She will sign her latest cookbook, “Lidia’s From Our Family Table To Yours” starting at 11 a.m. The price of the book is $20, a savings of $15 from the cover price, while supplies last. Books must be purchased at Dave’s for the signing.

The book was co-written with her daughter Tanya Bastianich Manuali and is subtitled "More Than 100 Recipes Made with Love for All Occasions." It's a personal collection of more than a hundred favorite family recipes.

Lidia chatted by phone on the subject of her food and family, two of her favorite things. She said the new cookbook is the companion to her PBS TV show "Lidia's Kitchen" which is now airing. She writes a new cookbook every two years and records 26 episodes of the show each spring. So the book's recipes will be featured this fall and next fall on the show.

At 76, Lidia does not appear to have slowed down at all, though she said she recharges with vacation travel and naps. She's still a restaurateur with Becco in New York City and Lidia's Kansas City in Missouri. She is also a partner in Eatalys across the world.

Her new book is a homage to her beloved mother, Erminia Motika, who died at age 100 two years ago. But it's more, too.

As she has connected with her fans for the past 25 years, they always ask her "What do you cook at home? What does Grandma cook at home?" she said. This cookbook offers her answers.

While she and her mother immigrated to America, her children and grandchildren were born here. So you'll find Italian-American recipes in the book, she said. That's because the ingredients available to you change with where you are and time.

"This cookbook brings us to the present," she said, offering an example.

"The kids love their kale salad. My granddaughter Olivia loves it," she said.

So there are recipes for a Kale and Mushroom Frittata and a Kale Salad with Avocado and Pistachios.

Lidia has noticed more people are cooking at home since the pandemic shut down the world for a while in 2020.

"I think people realized the beauty of cooking and that sitting at the table brings the family together," she said. "If you cook a good meal, your children will come home."

She describes it as the call of family.

"I have a good meal; come and eat it," she said. "I also deliver," she added with a laugh.
