Much like sipping hot coffee or watching your favorite TV shows, going to the bathroom alone is a luxury when you’re a parent. Once babies learn to crawl, personal space and private time practically goes out the window!

Even with nannies and professional help, celebrity parents are in the exact same boat. And many of them embrace it! A-listers have dished on talking to their kids while using the toilet, bathing with their children, and teaching their kids not to be ashamed of bodies.

Sometimes, parents don’t choose to have no privacy in front of their kids. In fact, they wish they had more — like when their kids walk in on them having sex! Talk about awkward… It’s OK, so many parents have been there. And even if it feels uncomfortable, it opens the door (literally) for an open, real conversation around sex — and boundaries.

The good news is, if your kid accidentally sees you naked or you operate a clothing-optional household, your kids won’t be traumatized. The important thing is approaching nudity in a non-sexual way and respecting children who are old enough to voice if they don’t want to see their parents in the buff.

Licensed psychotherapist and marriage and family counselor Shirin Peykar previously told SheKnows, “If the nudity is non-sexualized, there shouldn’t be psychological effects on a child, especially if you’re all on the same page, are all consenting and are all comfortable with it.”

Check out these celebrity parents’ bare truth about their privacy-free life with kids below.

Tori Spelling revealed that she always goes to the bathroom with a kid audience in a new interview.

On her misSPELLING podcast in April 2024, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star revealed that she hasn’t “pooped [or] peed alone in 18 years.” “First it was [with] Dean, then it was the kids,” she said, referring to her estranged husband Dean McDermott, with whom they share 5 kids.

“Beau still stands there and stares and talks to me while I’m pooping,” Spelling said about her 7-year-old son. “I think I function better with people. Is that co-dependent?”

“Yes. Cool,” she answered herself.

Dax Shepard shared that his daughters Lincoln, 10, and Delta, 9, who he shares with wife Kristen Bell, interrupt in him the bathroom. In a Feb. 2024 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Shepard said that his daughters come in during his morning “poopy time,” per TODAY.

“The girls start coming in and out,” Shepard said. “They sit and talk to me, like a foot away from me, and it’s terrible in there.” Gross!

Bradley Cooper was the guest on the show, and Shepard asked him if he experienced the same with his daughter Lea, 6, who he shares with ex Irina Shayk. “Do you find that your daughter doesn’t care at all?” he asked Cooper.

“Yeah, no, no. We talk where I’m on the toilet, she’s in the bathtub; that’s sort of the go-to,” Cooper answered.

What is it with men pooping in front of their daughters?! Both dads also shared that they are comfortable walking around in the buff at home. Shepard said his family are “naked all the time” and Cooper said he was also “totally” comfortable with nudity. “My dad was always nude, always took showers with him,” Cooper said.

Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis

Speaking of no privacy in the restroom, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher know the struggle. In a Sept. 2022 interview with E! News, Kunis shared that they have an open-door policy in their home, which “includes the bathroom.”

“It’s just one of those where, for better or for worse, as a family and the kids have all kind of embodied bodily function as a very standard norm,” Kunis explained.

The Black Swan actress continued, “I’d never thought that I would be the person that was able to go to the bathroom with the door open.” But since her kids wouldn’t stop knocking and asking to come in, she changed her mind. “I was like, ‘Oh, forget it. Just keep the door open.'”

Bath time might be a chance to get some privacy, but not for Chrissy Teigen. She brings her kids with her into the bathtub!

In Dec. 2019, she shared a photo of her in the bathtub with Luna (now 7) and Miles (now 5), who she shares with husband John Legend. She sat naked in the middle of the tub with her soapy legs pulled up, while Miles and Luna sat on either side of her.

When her daughter Esti, now 1, was born, she shared a similar photo of her in the bath. Teigen holds her newborn in the tub, and she just gazes into her mom’s eyes. “A boob that somehow hangs all along my side and deep purple lifetime scars,” Teigen wrote in the caption. “But you are too perfect to worry about any of it !”

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff bathes with her kids, too. She shared one nude selfie during the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, where she is cuddling with her daughter Banks, now 5, in the bathtub.

“Bff,” she captioned the photo. “One more day down! 🏆 to every parent out there……… we are lucky to be healthy ♥️……. also …damn these days are long ……”

And even when she is alone, her kids’ toys invade her privacy. The How I Met Your Father star, who is also mom to daughter Mae, 2, and son Luca, 11. She shared a selfie of her seemingly relaxing in the tub on her Instagram story in July 2023, per PEOPLE. But when she turned the camera and showed her “view,” it was filled with colorful bath toys. Oh, kids!

Jessica Simpson

Despite having three kids, Jessica Simpson and husband Eric Johnson are doing their best to keep their romance alive. (Johnson will even leave her sweet “little letters” when he leaves in the morning before her.) But one thing they never anticipated? One of their kids walking in on them having sex!

“There’s a lot of things that make me like, ‘I can’t wait to get my hands on him later.’ I think you have to have those little things as a couple that are just between you two,” she told Access in August 2023.

“And now it’s like our kids are so old. It’s like, wow, they’re gonna walk in on hanky panky time. So like, what do we do, how do we do this? Where do we go?” she joked.

One of her kids has walked in on them, but Simpson says she is “in denial” that it happened. “As is the child, so it’s not really been something that we’ve talked about,” she added.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow sparked controversy back in 2012 when she told Harpers Bazaar that her and her kids “all get into the tub together.” At the time, Apple and Moses were 7 and 5.

Although they don’t bathe together anymore, Apple and Moses are still welcome to visit their mom during her daily bath time. She told PEOPLE in Jan. 2018 that her nightly baths are a chance for her to “daydream and not be on [my phone].”

“It’s non-negotiable. It’s just like, I do it every night,” she continued. “My kids are welcome to come in and chat with me if they need to — it’s not like I’m in a meditation or something. But I just need that time and so I just take it. It’s really the only time I take for myself every single day regardless of what is going on.”

Jessie James Decker

Walking around in her underwear is no problem for Jessie James Decker. The country singer sparked backlash in April 2020 when she posted a photo of herself posing in a chair in her underwear with her kids in the background.

“You walk around like that with your kids around,” one person commented on the photo. Decker responded, “No different than a swim suit. I teach my children the body is beautiful. Nothing to be ashamed of.”

That is so true!

Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen didn’t think twice about being naked in front of his son Ben, now 4, but when his daughter Lucy, almost 2, was born, he started to second-guess himself.

“I needed your advice about a parenting thing,” Cohen asked Mark Consuelos in a July 2023 appearance on Live With Kelly & Mark. “So, [my toddler] Ben and I have taken baths, he loves to take a bath, whatever, I guess that’s normal. Now, were you ever naked in front of [your daughter] Lola? Like, I have a daughter, what is the protocol there? Because I’m a little bit of a nudie, and I feel like I need to start locking it up.”

Counsuelos, who shares daughter Lola, now 22, and two sons with wife Kelly Ripa, told Cohen that he was “never naked on purpose” around his daughter.

Cohen decided he wouldn’t take baths with his daughter before asking the actor when he thinks bath time with Ben should stop. “Like, two years ago,” he responded.

Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelas

Speaking of Mark and Kelly, their daughter Lola has walked in on them having sex before.

When Lola turned 18 in June 2019, the Riverdale actor told audiences on what was then Live With Kelly & Ryan, “We started [Lola’s] day off pretty bad yesterday,” per Page Six.

“I mean, it was the worst,” Ripa added. While they were getting down and dirty, their daughter walked right in. “So she opens the door … and we’re like ‘Ah, close the door, knock, what are you doing?” Consuelous recounts.

“She shuts the door and you hear, ‘You just ruined my birthday and my life and I used to see in color and now everything is gray,’” Ripa continued.

To make matters even more awkward, it happened on Father’s Day. So at a brunch later, Lola told them they were “disgusting” and “had no chill.”

“You act like you’re 20 but you’re not,” Ripa recalled Lola saying. She responded, “With respect, we weren’t in the kitchen, we weren’t in the hallway or your room.” She’s got a point there!

Mario Lopez

Mario Lopez and his wife Courtney Mazza opened up about having “quickie” sexy time now that they have three kids at home. In an appearance on Lisa Vanderpump’s E! series Overserved, the Saved by the Bell actor said, “This was so traumatic, our daughter walked in on us the other day.”

Their daughter Gia, who was 10 at the time, saw some things she didn’t plan on seeing. “So this is the worst thing, right? I was like lightning with the covers,” Lopez continued. “I said, ‘I got to go talk to her,’ but we couldn’t find her for like an hour.”

Yikes! When they did finally find their daughter, they had an open conversation about love and sex. Hey, that’s one way to jumpstart the birds and the bees talk!
